The Last Bus

A small bus travels at night.

There are twelve passengers: two tourists, a doctor, a musician, a manager, a student, and several other people.

At midnight, the bus enters a small town.

The town looks normal.

There is a hotel, a café, a police station, and a small hospital. But there are no people in the streets.

The driver stops in the center.

“This is not our destination,” the manager says.

The driver checks the map.

There is no town on the map.

The passengers have no internet signal. The radio plays only static.

Then a message appears on every telephone:

STAY IN THE CENTER.
DO NOT ENTER THE FOREST.

The doctor thinks it is a joke.

The student sees an old camera on a building.

The camera slowly turns toward the bus.

Suddenly, the hotel lights come on.

A man opens the hotel door.

“You are late,” he says.

The tourists look at each other.

“Late for what?”

The man does not answer.

Behind the bus, the road disappears into the fog.
